Why We Like Mint & Garlic for Horses – Rather Than Garlic Alone
Garlic has been a familiar addition to horse feed for generations. Walk into almost any feed room and there is a good chance you’ll find a tub or bag of garlic somewhere on the shelf.
But at British Equine, we particularly like the combination of mint and garlic. Why? Because rather than simply feeding garlic on its own, adding mint gives us a highly palatable combination that can make a useful addition to the everyday diet.
The traditional appeal of garlic
Garlic is widely used by horse owners as a complementary feed ingredient and has traditionally been associated with supporting general health and wellbeing.
It is also particularly popular during the warmer months, when many owners routinely add garlic to their horse's feed.
However, there's another consideration: will your horse actually enjoy eating it?
Garlic has a very distinctive smell and taste. While plenty of horses happily eat it, others can be less enthusiastic — particularly fussy feeders.
